Confusion Personified

On the morning after the assassination, Macbeth guides Macduff to the door of the king's bedroom (Macbeth Act 2 Scene 3). Macduff gets into the room to wake the king, but he (witnesses the bloody dead &) returns with a big surprised, terrible look. He reports to Lennox, & Macbeth pretending to know nothing, with his own words, that Duncan has been murdered:
