The word adobe came from Spanish into American English vocabulary in the 18th century. The Spanish word was formed from an Arabic term altub "the brick", which was from a Coptic term tobe "brick". Coptic is a language spoken in the ancient Egypt, and the word tobe remains as a hieroglyphic today. In the contemporary English, adobe means:
1. a sun-dried brick made of clay and straw.
2. a building or structure made of such material.
3. Silt or clay deposited by rivers, from which such bricks are made.

In the United States there is a software company called Adobe Systems founded 1982.

　Adobe は十八世紀にスペイン語から米語の語彙に借入された。そのスペイン語はアラビア語 altub (al "the & tub "brick") から出来ていて、もともとはコプト語 tobe 「煉瓦 (= brick)」に由来している。コプト語は古代エジプトで話されていた言語であり、tobe はヒエログリフとして今も残っている。現代英語における adobe の語義は以下のとおり。
1. 粘土や藁を材料とした日干し煉瓦。
2. 日干し煉瓦でできている建物。
3. その材料となる沈泥、シルト

Pueblo Native Americans live in houses made of clay. They are called adobe (ah-doe-bee) houses. Adobe is a yellow-colored clay that that comes from the ground. The hot sun of New Mexico and Arizona helps dry the clay to make strong bricks. The Pueblos have used adobe to build their homes for many years.

Kanban, made of Japanese. is first used as an English term meaning "a sign board or indicator" in 1977. This is also an abbreviation of kanban system which minimizes factory storage of various parts in the manufacturing process. This system was created by a Japanese car maker Toyota, and is also called the just-in-time (JIT) system, because components arrive from suppliers at the time they are required for assembly.

In Japanese as Chinese characters (kanjis). kan (看) originally means "to look at carefully," and ban (板), "board."

　日本語からできた kanban は一九七七年に「何かを示す為の板」を意味する英単語として初めて使用される。この言葉は製造過程における各種部品の在庫を縮小する「カンバン方式」の略語でもある。このシステムは日本の自動車メーカーであるトヨタによって作り上げられたものであり、組み立てられる際にタイミング良く供給側から部品が送られてくることから、ジャストインタイム方式とも呼ばれている。
